McMillan Congratulates Clydeside Action on Asbestos - Public Campaign of the Year
Stuart McMillan MSP, (SNP West of Scotland) has today (Friday 14th November) congratulated Clydeside Action on Asbestos who last night won the Public Campaign of the Year Award at the Herald Politician of the Year Award ceremony in Edinburgh. Clydeside Action were up against John Muir who has campaigned on the issue of knife crime after the tragic death of his son Damien and Tina McGeever who campaigned on the issue of cancer treatment drugs after the death of her husband Mr Gray.
Mr McMillan said;
"I am delighted to hear the excellent news that Clydeside Action on Asbestos has won the Campaign of Year Award.
"This is an important recognition of all the hard work the group has done and continues to do on behalf of sufferers of asbestos related conditions including pleural plaques.
"I have worked alongside the group since my election in May 2007 and in my role as a member of the Justice Committee have read the Damages (Asbestos-related Conditions) Bill, which recently cleared the first hurdle in the Scottish Parliament debating chamber.
"I look forward to the day when the Bill is passed as legislation and all the hard work and dedication of Clydeside Action on Asbestos comes to fruition."
On the back of receiving the award Phyllis Craig of Clydeside Action on Asbestos said;
" Clydeside Action on Asbestos is honoured to receive such a prestigious award. This recognises all those who have been diagnosed with an Asbestos Related Disease, and all of the families who have lost a loved one to an asbestos condition.
