SNP joy at Allander reprieve

SNP Group Leader is absolutely delighted that his motion to protect the Allander Leisure Centre until new facilities are constructed was passed unanimously at last week's full Council Meeting.
The Group were concerned that the axe could fall on the Allander if the Kilmardinny development plans were granted in any form.
The Council have now agreed that the Centre will remain open and fully operational until a replacement facility is built and available for community use.
Councillor Mackay said: "With recent planning and section 75 decisions forced through by the Labour/Conservative administration I was worried that we were sleepwalking into losing the Allander. So I decided to take the bull by the horns and present a motion to Council specifically to protect the Centre which I did successfully."
He continued: "What this means is that it is Council policy to retain the Allander until new facilities are in place and the only way that can be overturned is if a councillor brings another contradictory motion to the council to close the Allander which, in my opinion, is very unlikely with public opinion so strongly in favour of keeping this much-needed facility."
